E-WASTE
Your computer's slow and just not keeping up with you anymore. So you decide to chuck it for a new, super-powerful one. What happens to the old one? Odds are pretty good - 2 million tons of it in just one year according to the Environmental Protection Agency - that it makes its way to a landfill where it'll sit for hundreds of years. Now multiply that by your cell phone, your CD player, your old VCR and all of your neighbor's electronics. What's worse is that many of these hi-tech gadgets contain hazardous materials that can emit toxic chemicals through incinerator ash or landfill leachate.
